President’s Message

Welcome to the Utah AFCC Fall Conference!

As President of the Utah Chapter of the AFCC, it is my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s conference, “Charting the Changing Landscape for Families & Children in Conflict. Our theme reflects the important work we’re all doing to help families navigate the ever-evolving challenges they face, and we’ve designed this conference to provide you with the tools, strategies, and support to do just that.

In true AFCC spirit, we’re bringing together a large and diverse group of professionals—therapists, psychologists, members of the judiciary, mediators, custody evaluators, paralegals, attorneys, real estate professionals, financial planners, and others. No matter your role, we are united by a singular goal: improving the lives of families in conflict and the children affected by separation and divorce. Whether you are a seasoned AFCC-informed practitioner or new to AFCC, this conference offers you a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues and share ideas to improve your practice and strengthen the families we serve.

This year’s program offers a day and a half of engaging sessions that cover a broad range of critical topics for family law and mental health professionals.

I am especially excited about Mindy Mitnick’s return as our guest of honor.  Mindy will deliver her keynote address on Friday morning.  Mindy will focus on how trauma-informed practices can be incorporated into family law cases to better support our clients and the families we work with.

At its heart, this conference is about fostering collaboration across professions. We want to create an environment encouraging relationship-building and providing meaningful learning opportunities. During the sessions or in more informal settings, you’ll find plenty of chances to engage with experts, discover new approaches to support the families we serve, and connect with friends and colleagues.

We cannot pull this off without the generous support of our corporate partners and sponsors. Their contributions make everything possible, from funding numerous scholarships for attendees with limited resources, paying for the amazing conference venue, and providing great food throughout the event. We are incredibly grateful for their support.

I also want to acknowledge the incredible hard work of our conference staff, volunteers, and our “working board.” Our dedicated Utah AFCC board of directors rolls up their sleeves and handles the essential tasks needed to make these events happen. From organizing sessions to managing logistics, they do the hard work behind the scenes, and we owe them a huge thank you for making this conference a success.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference and working together to make a difference.
